Yusuke Urameshi

Yusuke Urameshi is the main protagonist of the anime and manga series, Yu Yu Hakusho or Poltergeist Report. He was originally a juvenile delinquent always getting into fights and seen as a hooligan. However one day he sees a car heading straight for a small child and upon instinct, Yusuke pushes the boy out of the way, getting hit and killed by the driver.

However, this is seen as a huge shock to the Spirit World as they did not foresee Yusuke sacrificing himself like this and had no place for him yet. To give him a test, the Grim Reaper, a girl named Botan, tasks Yusuke to raise a spirit egg with positive energy to revive him though if he failed the egg would hatch a monster that would devour his soul. Though possessing people and filling it with negative energy, albeit with good reasons, he succeeds in this task when he uses it to protect Keiko Yukimura, his childhood friend and love interest from burning to death. The positive energy enters Keiko who revives Yusuke by kissing his corpse.

Resurrected, Yusuke is soon blessed with Spiritual Energy and is tasked with the job of Spirit Detective, protecting the mortal realm from supernatural threats. Eventually he learns he's descended from one of the 3 rulers of the demon world Raizen and inherits Raizen's territory when he dies. However, he returns to the human world to be with his friends and Keiko who becomes his fiancee.
